Earth Observation and Innovation@VT
Environmental Security and Justice Through World-class EO Data and Research
In an era of rapid environmental changes and socioeconomic and escalating ecological challenges, the need for swift, evidence-based responses has never been more critical. The increasing frequency and severity of natural and human-made disasters, coupled with ongoing environmental degradation, demand immediate and informed action. Fortunately, advancements in data technology, particularly in remote sensing, artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and cloud computing, have opened unprecedented opportunities for large-scale environmental analysis and intervention.
The primary objective of the Earth Observation and Innovation Lab(EOI-Lab) is to create comprehensive and dynamic insights into ongoing environmental issues around the world. By integrating satellite Earth Observation, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data analytics, EOI-Lab aims to monitor and analyze current and pressing environmental issues on a global scale. It focuses on rapidly identifying and understanding diverse challenges, such as natural and human made disasters, pollution, environmental and ecological degradation, political conflicts and the resulting human and environmental implications.
